MEDLINEplus offers consumer oriented information about specific diseases and conditions, including drug information. There is also a Medical Encyclopedia and a dictionary, and directories to find doctors, dentists and hospitals. Also available in Spanish (other languages are included but to a lesser extent). 

 

Evaluating Internet Health Information

This tutorial from the Medline Plus and the National Library of Medicine teaches you how to evaluate health information that you find on the Web. It is about 16 minutes long and requires a flash plug-in.

Offers information on a wide variety of health topics, and includes links to many other health-related resources, including toll-free numbers for health hotlines. 

 

American Medical Association

A physician locator, with each doctor's education and other background; a hospital finder; policy statements of the Association about topics such as ethics and health insurance reform; news; research articles from medical publications such as JAMA, the A.M.A. journal; and consumer health material about a wide variety of conditions. Note that only physicians who are members of AMA are included in the physician locator.

Consumer health information provided by government, nonprofit organizations, and universities covers diabetes, influenza, and the special concerns of children, teens, seniors, and people of color. Some articles are in Spanish as well as in English. Note the referrals to clearinghouses, online publications, self-help groups, and websites.
