Aims to provide full access to civic legal aid for economically disadvantaged people who cannot secure a lawyer on their own.

 

LSNJ-LAW, New Jersey's Statewide Legal Hotline

Provides legal information, advice, and referral to low-income residents of New Jersey with civil legal problems (criminal cases are referred). Hotline service is free for those deemed financially eligible.

 

New Jersey Office of the Public Defender

Provides constitutionally mandated representation for adults or juveniles charged with criminal offenses who are unable to afford private lawyers. Must be deemed eligible for public defender services by the court.

 

Newark Reentry Legal Services (ReLeSe) Network

"Organized through a collaboration among Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s Office, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, and other organizations, and with the support of community based organizations, local law firms, IOLTA and the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, ReLeSe matches clients with volunteer attorneys to handle issues most commonly encountered by recently incarcerated individuals but not handled by existing legal services programs. Referrals to the program are made by local service providers that work with the reentry population, as well as by Newark City Hall. All assistance is provided free of charge....ReLeSe does not accept self-referrals.
