American Institute of Architects


The website of this national professional organization offers news of interest to the architectural community, an architects' career center for job seekers and employers, and  a "find an architect" feature searchable by project type.  In addition, there is an online bookstore and a link to the AIA's searchable catalog of over 40,000 books.


American Institute of Architecture Students


This student arm of the American Institute of Architects provides a clearinghouse about awards, local chapters, job hunting, advocacy, etc.  The Resources pages contain information about the career in general.


American Landscape and Architectural Design, 1850-1920


"This collection of approximately 2,800 lantern slides represents an historical view of American buildings and landscapes built during the period 1850-1920." Locate views of cities, specific buildings, parks, estates and gardens in this collection.




Database of over 14,000 built and unrealized projects from various architects and planners. Search by architect, town, or keyword. Find name, address, brief information on the projects, and suggestions for further study. Images and floor plans are included with some entries. Primarily for 20th century projects.

The Internet’s "oldest portal site for urban planners and others interested in cities and the built environment, contains a selective directory of Internet resources relevant to planning and urbanism. Cyburbia also includes information about mailing lists and newsgroups, and it hosts a very active bulletin board and image hosting gallery."


Elements of Architecture


Created by the St. Louis Public Library, this online exhibit draws on the George Fox Steedman Architectural Collection, which was donated to the Library in 1928. Within each of the four sections, visitors can zoom in on each document and they can also read a bit of background information on each item.
