According to the New York Post, the IRS (federal taxes) has announced, "Taxpayers will have until July 15 to pay their 2019 bills instead of the usual April 15."  New Jersey will follow the same plan, as cited in https://www.law360.com/articles/1253688/nj-assembly-oks-tax-filing-extensions-due-to-covid-19.

2020 Free Tax Preparation

sites in Newark and environs:  Please call first to make sure that they are open during the coronavirus crisis.

Free tax prep sites are available for people who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speakers.  We are not certain that these hours or locations are still valid, as none of the sites have contacted us to provide an update.  It is highly recommended that people call the site directly to make sure that the information shared before the COVID-19 outbreak is still correct.

Please have the below documents available to show the tax preparer:

  • Photo ID
  • Social Security cards for everyone listed on the tax return
  • W2, W-2G, 1099-R, SSa-1099, 1099-Misc forms, as applicable (these are wages/earnings forms from employers)
